Why would you want to reach a global and American audience instead of a local audience on TikTok?
TikTok is a great platform to reach a mass audience, but it has a major downside if you don't live in the US.
If you're trying to use the TikTok platform to make money, you'd want to target US audiences as they are the most worth targeting.The American public is often more likely to buy something compared to the population in many other regions.
However, TikTok's algorithm is designed to show the content you post mainly in your region or country where you live. Therefore, people living in the US have a huge advantage over people outside the US when promoting something on the TikTok platform.
Many people have tried to figure out how to change the region on TikTok and have tried various methods and tricks to outsmart the TikTok algorithm.
Well, I was one of them too. I wanted to see if it was possible to reach an American audience, in my case Finland. I will not talk about the exact numbers, but about my general findings on the matter.
TikTok users and demographics?
TikTok is a video-sharing social network owned by the Chinese company Bytedance and has approximately 700 million users worldwide. Worldwide, 56% of TikTok users are men and 44% of TikTok users are women. About 50% of TikTok users are under the age of 34.
How many followers do you need to make money on TikTok?
Most people might think TikTok is all about dance videos, but that's not the case anymore. Many people are making a lot of money on TikTok these days. Of course, the more followers you have, the more money you can earn.
If you have a great deal to promote, you won't need a huge following to start making money. I would say a few thousand is enough to start seeing results. Of course, the bigger your fan base, the more you can earn.
How does TikTok know your location?
TikTok tends to show your content mainly in the region you are in. How does TikTok know where you are (or live) now? In theory, there are several ways TikTok can determine your location from your smartphone.
- Your phone's IP address
- The SIM card you are using
- Your GPS location
- Google Play location
1. Adres IP
It is possible to know your country based on your device's IP address information. Each device connected to the Internet has a unique IP address, and TikTok can tell where it is based on the IP address.
However, the IP address can be changed very easily with VPN software. You can connect via VPN to another country and it appears that you are physically in that country.
I think TikTok is very aware of the IP address pools used by popular VPN providers, so it would be easy to determine if someone is using a VPN to trick TikTok's algorithm.
However,I still find it advantageous to use avpn solutionthan not using it at all.If you don't use a VPN, you can count on TikTok to display your posts in your country.
2. Card SIM
I read the advice that you should change your phone's SIM card to a US card because TikTok uses information from the SIM card to determine your location. So I ordered a US Mobile SIM from Amazon and wanted to give it a try.
The problem with this approach was that the US mobile SIM card did not work in Finland and I couldn't use it at all. When you create a TikTok account, TikTok sends you an SMS to verify your account, and you cannot have this if your mobile plan is not activated and your SIM card is not working properly.

I tried this method and it seemed to work. I activated my account with no problem. Be sure to order avirtual mobile number- This is not a landline number.
3. GPS location
I believe that GPS is not the method by which TikTok determines your location, as you can turn off all location services on your phone.
4. Google Play
Instead of downloading the TikTok app from Google Play, download the setup file (TikTok.apk) from the internet. This way you will be able to bypass Google Play location. This may affect where content is displayed.
How to change region on TikTok?
After many tests, I would say that the best combination is a smartphone without a SIM card, but with a virtual number, a VPN-type solutionNordVPNwhich allows you to connect to multiple VPN pools. Also turn off location services on your smartphone.
However, this setup is by no means bulletproof. Even with this setting, TikTok showed my content mostly in my region.However, with this strategy I was also able to reach an audience in the US, 30-40% of the views were from the US.I was able to achieve this in a short time.
What kind of TikTok account should I use?
TikTok has two different account types, Creator and Business. A creator account allows you to access and use popular music in your videos, while a business account allows you to instantly add a link in your description.
I recommend using a Creator account and adding a link to the description after you get 1,000 followers.

How many videos a day should I post?
TikTok is a platform where new content reigns supreme. Old content ages and fades quickly, and you need to post new content regularly to stay in the game. In this sense, TikTok is like Instagram.
You need to post 3-5 new videos a day to gain popularity, and even more if you're just starting out. Once you've established your presence on TikTok, you won't need to post as many videos anymore.
How to use hashtags?
When posting videos, use hashtags to make them easier to find. My advice is to use 2-3 broad hashtags related to your niche and 2-3 more specific hashtags.
How to increase engagement?
TikTok is all about engagement. The more attractive your videos are, the more followers you will get. You can always like your post after uploading it. Another good strategy is to comment on your own post to increase engagement - you can ask a question related to your post.
What is the best time to post on TikTok?
It is known that people use TikTok more actively at night. Therefore, it might be a good idea to adjust your TikTok post time accordingly. Post your videos in the evening in your target TikTok audience region.

- Targeting an audience other than your country of origin is difficult. It is possible, but requires more time and effort.

TikTok is a platform based on its algorithm just like all other major platforms like Google, Youtube, Facebook, etc. The algorithm is made to show videos mainly in your own region.
TikTok does a great job of trying to determine your location. I don't find it advantageous to try to outsmart the algorithm; the results are practically the same.
You can try the tips I gave in this post on how to change region on TikTok. I don't find it beneficial, but you can always try. Also, keep in mind that TikTok regularly updates its algorithm so things may change in the future.
Instead of doing something shady that the algorithm might not like, it's better to play by your own rules andgrow organicallyand this applies to all platforms. It will be more difficult to reach an audience in the US, for example, but it is doable if you stay consistent and have a strong content strategy.
You have to be strategic about it because a lot of people make the same type of videos and you have to stand out from the crowd.
Take your time to discover your unique point of view and learn how to make your videos your own.But remember, don't try to be anything other than who you are, be yourself because people will notice.
The bottom line is that you will achieve this if you post good, engaging content that people find valuable.Yes, it's harder to reach a foreign audience, but the profit can be worth it. You can speed up the process with these settings:
